Central
Glasgow and the Central Region of Scotland is the ideal base for the visitor who wants to combine great golf with a wonderful cultural experience. Once the second city of Empire, the Glasgow of the present day has long since cast off its heavy industrial image and now welcomes visitors to a wide-ranging cultural experience featuring galleries, museums, theatres and festivals and an exciting night life.
In addition Glasgow has a distinguished golfing pedigree and players from the earliest days of the game are known to have put club to ball on the famous Glasgow Green long before the fine layouts of Killermont and Haggs Castle (once the home of the Glasgow Classic) were even thought of. There are more than 80 moorland, heathland and parkland courses reaching out from Greater Glasgow into the Clyde Valley area. Many are challenging tests of golf while others offer tranquil surroundings and golf at a different pace.
To the north of the city there are fine layouts at Bishopbriggs, Stirling and Buchanan Castle near Drymen. To the south there lies the heathland around Lanark where the game has been played since 1851 and where the club members play annually for a silver claret jug, very similar but many years older than the famous Open Championship trophy itself.
