On the island of Arran off the west coast of Scotland, only an hour by ferry from the mainland, is to be found one of the most unusual and great hidden gems in the wide world of golf. The Shiskine Golf Club at Blackwaterfoot is famous not for any championships that have been played there, for there have been none of any great importance, but for the fact that it is 12 holes only and remains as one of the truly unspoiled seaside links still surviving. Here we find real golf; the golf played by Old Tom Morris and Willie park and Willie Fernie who laid out this gem. Virtually every hole has a blind shot either from the tee or for the approach to the green and sometimes both.
