The Buddon Links course begins parallel with the adjacent
Championship course and continues around the outside edge of that
layout, making it the closest to the North Sea of all Carnoustie's
courses. First opened some 20 years ago, on land purchased from the
Ministry of Defence (hence each hole is named after a famous
battle), the Buddon Links received a mixed reaction from local
players. Since that time costal erosion and extensive alteration
and upgrading have radically changed the original layout. These
changes have met with great approval and the course is now
extremely popular. Far shorter than either the Championship or the
Burnside, the Buddon Links course has seven par threes and only one
par five and is therefore a much less demanding test of golf that
provides an enjoyable round for all standards of golfer.
