Course Details

It is quite remarkable how many of Scotland's most enjoyable links courses reflect the hand of James Braid. Fortrose and Rosemarkie on the Black is one of the less well known in his portfolio but it is one of the most charming and enjoyable to play. It lies out on the Chanonry Point, a sliver of links land twelve miles or so north-east of Inverness jutting out into Rosemarkie Bay and guarding the entrance to the Moray Firth.

The road to the lighthouse at the end of the promontory splits the course in two, with just enough ground on either side to accommodate a layout that is relatively short by present day standards but which is tricky and tight and always a joy to play. The wind is the defining factor and the defence that Braid built into his clever design.
