Located in the heart of this beautiful Borders
town the G & A Hotel offers a variety of accommodation for the
family visitors. Comfortable surroundings make your stay an
enjoyable one while you visit many of the attractions in Melrose
itself or the surrounding area.
Melrose is in the centre of the region offering
easy access to Galashiels, Kelso, Jedburgh and Hawick and is only
40 miles from the centre of Edinburgh, making the historic town an
ideal base for any visit to Scotland.
Within a short walk are Melrose Abbey, home to
the heart of Robert the Bruce, and the Trimontium Exhibition,
giving an insight into the Romans in Scotland.
Melrose is an ideal base for those with an
interest in Scottish history. Local landmarks include the 22 ft
tall sandstone statue of William Wallace, and Abbostford, the home
of Sir Walter Scott.
Those wishing a walking holiday will find us at
the start of the St Cuthberts way, a 62 mile cross border walking
route as well as shorter walks through the Eildon hills or for the
more experienced walker and ideal stopping off point on the
Southern Upland Way.
Cyclists will find many good cycling routes close
by including the 4 Abbeys Cycle Route and we are still within a
short drive of more specialised cycling courses such as Glentress
Forest which boasts some spectacular mountain biking terrain.
Above the banks of the River Tweed the town is
obviously a hit with fishermen. Some of the best salmon and trout
fishing in Scotland is just a short scenic walk away. Permits
available locally as well as all the requirements for the
enthusiastic fly fisher.
Those looking for a slower pace will find Harmony
Gardens and Priorwood Gardens offering a large variety of flora and
fauna to idle away those tranquil summer days.
Melrose is famously connected with the oldest
rugby Sevens tournament in the world, which are held annually in
the spring. The G & A is within 100 yards of the famous
Greenyards rugby ground. Golf and fishing packages available.
ALL GROUND FLOOR PUBLIC AREAS ARE
NON-SMOKING.
