Allonby Cottage is a delightful sea front
property situated on the front in the village of Kippford, Dumfries
and Galloway, Scotland.
The cottage offers flexible accommodation that
provides cosy comfort for a couple or plenty of space for a family.
It has wonderful, uninterrupted views over the Urr Estuary,
Kippford Harbour and the hills beyond.
The picturesque little village of Kippford has
all you need for a wonderful stay; beautiful scenery, good food and
plenty to do.
Allonby Cottage is ideally located for nearby
beaches, sailing, mountain biking, golfing, walking, fishing or
simply relaxing by the sea. Take a look at our list of local
attractions and activities to see for yourself the wide range of
things to do within a walk, cycle ride or short drive of the
cottage.
Kippford is also the ideal location to explore
the South West of Scotland. Within easy reach there is an
inexhaustible supply of National Trust properties, RSPB reserves,
family activities, historic sites, stunning coastal and hill
scenery and bustling market towns to explore.
Allonby Cottage is ideally located, by being
on the front you have uninterrupted views over the Urr Estuary,
Kippford Harbour and out to the Galloway Hills beyond.
Kippford has no through road so only those ‘in
the know’ or those happening upon it know of its tranquil and
beautiful location. If you turn right out of the front gate of the
cottage you walk down to the Yacht Club and Mariner and Anchor
Pubs.
If you turn left you pass the lifeboat station
and can either stop at the Ark shop for an ice cream or turn left
up the brae towards the jubilee path over the headland to
Rockliffe. By continuing to walk along the front, and not up the
brae, you come across a series of small beaches that are ideal for
wiling away a few hours.
History
The cottage was built originally in 1896 and
consisted then simply of a ‘two up and two down’. The Kippford
front and Allonby Cottage were clearly photogenic back then and
feature on many post-cards through the years.
We think it kept its original shape until
1975, when a local doctor purchased it and added the large kitchen,
a further bedroom, a workshop and re-directed the stairs. We’re
reliably informed that dynamite was used to blast out the Kippford
granite to clear room for the kitchen!
