The James Braid Angus Golf
Trail
Some of the finest inland golf in Scotland
is to be found along this James Braid Trail.
Edzell lies at the very gateway
to the Highlands, enjoys a wonderful backdrop of mountains in an
idyllic setting and is one of Scotland's hidden treasures.
Old Tom Morris laid out the first course at
Forfar. The present layout is Braid's legacy from
the 1920s and quite superb it remains to this day.
At Alyth he designed extra holes
to expand the course from 13 to 18 holes just before the Second
World War, while at the famous Blairgowrie Club he
reworked Alister MacKenzie's original design to create one of the
great inland courses in the British Isles.
Little remains of Braid's original design at
Downfield but the present course is considered by
Peter Thomson to be one of the most testing courses away from the
seaside.
