The James Braid Gleneagles Golf Trail

Duration: 4 days

A Pinnacle of Achievement.

It was here in the heart of Perthshire that James Braid created what is widely regarded as his masterpiece. The majestic setting of the Kings and Queens courses at the famous Gleneagles Hotel stand as a monument to his contribution to the game as a golf course builder.

The Kings and Queens courses at Gleneagles probably represent the pinnacle of achievement for James Braid the golf course architect. Both are superb heathland courses set in some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.

The Kings course has hosted many important events since its official opening in 1919 including a match between British and American professionals which was the forerunner of the Ryder Cup.

Taymouth Castle, laid out by Braid in the early 1920's, is well known among discerning visitors to this beautiful setting at the eastern end of Loch Tay, and Crieff presents a delightful challenge. Alloa - or Shawpark as it is also known - is a Braid redesign from the 1930s and very good it is too.
