Majestic Speyside

Duration: 5 days

Itinerary - Highlands & Islands

Golfing in Speyside is special. The golf courses are all set beneath the majestic Cairngorm mountains and enjoy some spectacular views across the valley.

The traditional Highland villages of Newtonmore, Kingussie, Aviemore, Boat of Garten, Carrbridge, Grantown or Nethy Bridge are all ideal bases for enjoying a golfing break in the area with a wide-range of accommodation suitable for all budgets. You will not have to travel more than 40 minutes from any of these bases and all are ideally linked by the A9.

Boat of Garten is one of the most well-known golf courses in the areas. Designed by James Braid originally, its recent alterations have enhanced its reputation further. It is a beautiful scenic golf course where it is not uncommon to spot deer crossing the tree-lined fairways. A short drive up the A95, Grantown-on-Spey was designed by Willie Park and has some magnificent views. It is a mixture of parkland, woodland and heathland and is a wonderful test of golf. Further south on the A9, Kingussie is set above the village and it's a hilly and challenging golf course with some fantastic views across to the Cairngorms. Recently played a starring role in the series Monarch of the Glen. Newtonmore is another 18 hole golf course. It is flatter than the either Kingussie or Boat of Garten but is lined with trees, gorse and water. Not an easy course for putting a score together.

Spey Valley Championship Course, at Aviemore, designed by Dave Thomas, is now open and is set to become one of the Highlands premier courses and destined to rank in the top 5.

Speyside also has some excellent 9 hole courses - ideal for warming up for the bigger challenges ahead or for those simply wishing to play at a slower pace.

Abernethy which is 5 minutes from Boat of Garten is a delightful course close to pine woods with commanding views of the River Spey and surrounding hills whilst Carrbridge on the other side of the valley is a mixture of parkland and heathland. It is short but challenging and kept in excellent condition throughout the year. Craggan Golf Course is entirely made up of par 3 holes and is great fun.

You can play all these golf courses using the Speyside & Badenoch Golf Pass. See Golf Pass page on website.
