A number of Border courses are situated near water or have water running through them!
Day 1
Eyemouth is the only coastal golf course in the Scottish Borders therefore is an ideal place to start this tour. The par 3, 6th hole at Eyemouth has recently been voted number 1 in Britain’s “most extraordinary golf hole.” It is actually played across the North Sea! The “Harbour Lights” restaurant within the clubhouse offers a varied menu and has a range of fresh seafood dishes - sit and eat whilst watching over the course and looking out sea.
Day 2
Travel inland and only 15 miles away is the Duns Golf Club which has Wellrig burn running through the course. Duns was the winner of the 2005 Scottish Borders most visitor friendly 18-hole golf course competition. This club also boasts excellent facilities with a view that looks over the 18th green. If you are interested in motorsport the Jim Clark Room (2 times World Champion) in Duns is well worth a visit. In the afternoon travel 12 miles to Coldstream where you can play The Hirsel Golf Course. This course is situated on the Hirsel Estate and has the River Leet running through it. Full catering service is available within the clubhouse which has a balcony overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green.
Day 3
Travelling through Kelso onto the village of Heiton on the A698 you will find The Roxburghe Golf Course, which has been host to the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open for several years. This Championship standard course has the River Teviot flowing next to a couple of holes, water features as well as the ‘Viaduct’ 14th, destined to become one of the most photographed holes in golf. The bar menu is available throughout the day at Fairways bar and restaurant.
Day 4
Travelling onwards on the A698 you will join the A68 then north to St Boswells Golf Course. This 9-hole course is set along the banks of the River Tweed and next to the Dryburgh Abbey (dates back to 1150) which can be seen over through the trees. In the afternoon you may move onto Torwoodlee Golf Club 2 miles North of Galashiels on the A7, which is set along the banks of the Gala Water. The clubhouse staff offer a good service and meals are available at lunchtime and in the evening set in a peaceful location.
Day 5
Approx 16 miles from Galashiels is the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club. This is the newest addition to the area and was designed by Dave Thomas the world-renowned golf course architect. The Championship standard Course is a combination of a parkland and woodland course and runs along banks of the River Tweed. Either stay and have a meal in the clubhouse or the 4 star hotel or visit Peebles with an excellent variety of places to shop and eat.
