The majority of the golf courses in the Scottish Borders have extended to 18-holes over the years however, there still exists some challenging 9-holes courses that are in excellent condition.
Day 1
Lilliardsedge Golf Course (on A68, approx 5 miles south of St Boswells) the newest 9-hole course in the Borders, is where the first days play begins. The course is part of the Lilliardsedge Holiday Park and has stunning views of the Border hills. In the afternoon travel north to play St. Boswells Golf Course which is in a tranquil setting along the River Tweed. You could stay and enjoy the comforts of the Buccleuch Arms Hotel next to The Green in St Boswells for bar meals. Or alternatively travelling further north towards Edinburgh you will arrive at Lauder. Here you will find another 9-hole golf course offering unbelieveable value for money on a course that lies on a gentle sloping hillside. In Lauder, the Black Bull Hotel, a refurbished 18th Century coaching inn is an ideal stop. They are the AA Pub Guide, Scotland Pub of the Year 2005/6.
Day 2
For your second days golf there is a lovely little 9-hole golf course at Innerleithen. Set in the picturesque Leithen Valley, it is a relatively easy walking course with only one steep incline. You could then travel to Melrose to the oldest of all the 9-hole clubs in the Borders. Melrose Golf Course, a parkland course, is situated at the foot of the Eildon Hills. In 2005, Melrose was voted the Scottish Borders most visitor friendly 9-hole golf course. A short walk into Melrose town centre you will find an endless choice of excellent shops and places to eat.
Day 3
Begin your day at Selkirk Golf Club just off the A7, a fantastic heathland course that is laid out across Selkirk Hill with panoramic views over the Border countryside. For a light lunch travelling north and just on the edge of Selkirk is Selkirk Glass were you can enjoy your lunch and watch the glass making. For your next stop travel south on the A7 to Hawick then take the B6399 to Newcastleton Golf Course set on the side and top of the Holm Hill in Reiver country. There are a couple of pubs in the village offering good food.
