At the southern end of the Kintyre Peninsula lies one of Scotland's most dramatic courses, Machrihanish. Visitors come from every part of the world to test its rolling links but few are prepared to negotiate the first tee. Played over the beach and usually into a stiff wind, it's a fitting start to one of the finest links courses in the world! Dunaverty is also another beautiful course with wonderful views and depending on the wind could feel twice as long as its yardage.
A short journey north leads to Lochgilphead where you have the choice or either 9 hole or 18 holes.
From Lochgilphead, an hours drive north through spectacular scenery takes you to Oban that boasts a James Braid designed course at Glencruitten (Oban Golf Course), offering a challenge to even the low handicap player.
Twelve miles from Oban on the A85 brings you to Taynuilt, with both 9 and 18 holes. Or, still on the A85, Dalmally is a 9 hole picturesque flat parkland course surrounded by mountains and bounded by the River Orchy.
From Dalmally, take the A819 south to Inveraray with its 9 hole course with breakthtaking views over Loch Fyne and the surrounding hills. From Inveraray follow the A815 to Dunoon. The town has 3 courses on offer, the 18 hole Cowal, and two 9 hole courses at Innellan and Strone. From Dunoon a short ferry crossing brings you back towards Glasgow and the main motorway links.
