Island Golf in the Inner Hebrides

Duration: 4 days

Itinerary - South West

The Inner Hebrides is a wonderful golfing destination for those who are looking for a bit more adventure! Easily accessible by ferry, golfing on these islands will give you a unique experience as well as the opportunity to enjoy another of Scotland's finest exports - whisky!

Take the ferry from Oban across to the Isle of Mull. Here there are two 9 hole courses, Craignure, a demanding links course and Tobermory, the island's colourful capital, with its cliff top location is an excellent test of golf, coupled with superb views over the town and out towards the Sound of Mull.

Further south on the mainland travel from Tarbert on the peninsula known as the Mull of Kintyre, across to Islay. Islay is to The Machrie, an 18 hole links course designed in 1891 by the celebrated Willie Campbell from the natural terrain alongside Laggan Bay, this traditional links course rates high as a must for the discerning golfer. Even more so if you imbibe in the spirit for which Islay is famous, its malt whiskies!

On the Isle of Bute, the 18 hole Rothesay course is one of the most inspiring settings anywhere in which to strike a ball. The Port Bannatyne course is unusual in that it offers 13 holes, an ideal length if you want a relaxed round. The 9 hole Kingarth is a unique course set close to the sands at Stravannan.

For those who want to continue their Island Golfing Experience, why not also visit the Isle of Arran lying off the south west coast. Arran has 7 golf courses including the famous Shiskine Golf Course which remains in its original 12 hole design.
