2014 Ryder Cup dates
The 40th Ryder Cup will take place at The
PGA Centenary Course at The Gleneagles
Hotel, Perthshire, from Friday 26 September to
Sunday 28 September, 2014.
The date for the biennial contest between Europe
and the United States was announced at The Gleneagles Hotel in the
presence of Scotland’s First Minister, The Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP,
European Ryder Cup Director Richard Hills, Peter Lederer, Chairman
of Gleneagles Hotel, and Patrick Elsmie, Managing Director of The
Gleneagles Hotel.
Alex Salmond MSP said: "As the home of golf,
Scotland is well placed to host the best Ryder Cup in the
competition’s history when it arrives at Gleneagles in 2014.
"During the week of The Ryder Cup itself, the
Scottish economy is expected to benefit by up to £100m, as visitors
flock from across the globe to experience superb golf on one of the
best courses in the world."
Richard Hills said: "Since Scotland was awarded
the staging of The Ryder Cup ten years ago, we have all been
looking forward to visiting Gleneagles in 2014. I am certain the
Gleneagles team, and Scotland, will deliver an outstanding Ryder
Cup in three years’ time."
The 2014 Ryder Cup will be only the second time
in history that golf’s greatest team event has been staged in
Scotland, the previous occasion being in 1973.
Work has commenced on some exciting modifications
to The PGA Centenary Course, proposed by
the course’s designer Jack Nicklaus. The main work to date has been
to the 9th and 10th holes, with work set to begin on the 18th
hole.
